In one form or another, the arts have touched each of our lives in a positive way. For some of us, the arts are inseparable from who we are. Creating or experiencing another’s person’s creation makes us feel inspired, whole, energized or relaxed. In short, the arts help us live better in a variety of ways. That’s why this year’s conference theme is The Arts + Living Well.

This October, we’ll explore the link between creativity and our physical, mental, spiritual, and social health as well as provide opportunities to network. This year’s conference features artist and television personality Wyatt Waters as the keynote speaker.

This year, the State Arts Conference will be held Thursday, October 24, 2019, at the Mississippi State Capitol Building in downtown Jackson from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Mississippi Djembe
Artistic Director
Pelahatchie, Ms.
I have played the djembe for over 40 years. During my tenure in Chicago, I was an independent artist with the Society of Sun Drummer and three dance companies, sojourning with Muntu Dance Theatre for 10 years. I co-created Alyo Children's Dance Theatre and was it's principal drum instructor and Musical Director for 13 years. I teach the historical and cultural significance of the djembe drum, along with the traditional songs that belong to the djembe drum. I am the musical and artistic director for Mississippi Djembe. Our mission is to bring Old School Roots djembe to Mississippi by demonstrating the connection of the djembe family and traditional songs, dance, and folklore to the heartbeat of Mississippi.
